     Shows should gain from product placements, Cherry says
"Desperate Housewives" executive producer Marc Cherry wants his show to receive compensation for product placement deals -- a stance that runs counter to that of Patric Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America West.      Wal-Mart touts in-store TV marketing
Wal-Mart Stores is presenting research that claims advertising on its in-store marketing network, operated at select locations in partnership with Premier Retail Networks, is more efficient than conventional cable and network TV advertising in terms of generating sales. A survey of Wal-Mart TV watchers conducted by the TNS Media and Entertainment Group found that 15% of viewers purchased advertised products immediately after seeing them on an in-store broadcast.   MediaPost Communications (free registration) (11/30)

Steve Capus was named president of NBC News, giving the veteran newsman responsibility for all of NBC's news operations and MSNBC.
